CBT

As a BABCP-accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, my work is anchored in evidence-based CBT practice and guided by a compassionate, client-centred ethos. Our sessions together will be your safe space and place to work on the problems that have brought you to therapy, without any fear of judgement. I offer a unique approach to CBT that draws on several key specialisms and professional interests  described below. These are used according to your specific needs and  to best support you and the wide range of emotional and psychological challenges you may be facing.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy used to help individuals recover from distressing life experiences, particularly trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR focuses on processing unhelpful memories and emotions by using guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. This process helps the brain reframe and integrate traumatic memories in a healthier way, reducing their emotional impact. EMDR is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) in the UK as an effective treatment for trauma and is often incorporated alongside CBT to support long-term emotional wellbeing.

Transdiagnostic CBT

Many people struggle with mental health difficulties that do not fit neatly into one category - for example you may be experiencing anxiety or depression or stress or obsessive-compulsive disorder, or any combination of these at the same time. For this reason, I use a transdiagnostic approach, which focuses on the underlying psychological processes (for example, avoidance, perfectionism, or difficulty tolerating distress) common to a range of disorders.  This approach is supported by current psychological research and allows for flexible, targeted interventions that address the root causes of distress rather than just the symptoms.

Narrative exposure therapy (NET)
For clients who have experienced repeated or complex trauma, I offer Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)—a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process traumatic memories within the context of their life story. NET is particularly effective for those with PTSD resulting from chronic exposure to traumatic events, such as interpersonal violence, war, or childhood abuse. It allows clients to construct a coherent and emotionally integrated narrative of their experiences, helping to reduce trauma-related symptoms and regain a sense of agency and identity.

Outdoor therapy

Outdoor therapy offers a refreshing and effective alternative to traditional indoor CBT sessions by taking therapy into natural outdoor settings. Combining the proven benefits of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with the calming, grounding influence of nature, outdoor therapy can help reduce stress, enhance emotional resilience, and support clearer thinking. It’s a recognised and viable approach for those who feel more at ease outside or who find that movement and fresh air help them open up more easily. Whether walking side-by-side or seated in a quiet natural spot, outdoor CBT provides a gentle yet powerful way to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a supportive and restorative environment.
If you’d like to explore whether this therapy might be the right fit, please feel free to get in touch here.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful tool in therapy. When integrated with CBT, it helps develop a greater awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours—which can then be adapted to something that is more helpful for you. Research has consistently shown that mindfulness-based interventions can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress, and enhance emotional regulation. I use mindfulness to help clients step out of automatic patterns of reacting, and cultivate a more balanced, present-focused awareness.

Substance Misuse

I have extensive experience of working with individuals struggling with substance misuse. My approach integrates CBT techniques with motivational interviewing, relapse prevention strategies, and an understanding of the psychological mechanisms that maintain addictive behaviours. I also consider the role of trauma, shame, and co-occurring mental health conditions in the development and maintenance of addiction, and work collaboratively with clients to develop sustainable, recovery-focused goals.
